Democrats: The  Party of Hypocrites

On Friday the Democratic leadership of the Senate — Majority Leader Harry Reid, Assistant Majority Leader Richard Durbin, Conference Chair Charles Schumer, and Conference Secretary Patty Murray — wrote to President Obama urging him to unilaterally raise the debt ceiling in the event that Republicans either block such an increase or attempt to pass one “as part of unbalanced or unreasonable legislation.”

“We believe that you must make clear that you will never allow our nation’s economy and reputation to be held hostage,” the Democrats wrote. “We believe you must be willing to take any lawful steps to ensure that America does not break its promises and trigger a global economic crisis — without congressional approval, if necessary.”

Put aside the picture of leading lawmakers, usually so jealous of their constitutional prerogatives, asking the president to ignore Congress. What is striking about the letter is that every one of its signers — Reid, Durbin, Schumer, and Murray — voted against raising the nation’s debt ceiling just seven years ago.

These hypocrites don’t even try to pretend to be honest representatives anymore.

And Congressmen urging the President to bypass Congress? What the hell is that about?  Don’t they realize that once he bypasses them on one “small” thing, it’s easier to do it on larger things in the future?

Or maybe that’s that’s been the plan all along.

Get the people used to small violations of the law and Constitution and they won’t bat an eye when they do it on a larger scale. Precedent and all that stuff.

Yep. You keep voting these greedy, power hungry vampires back into office, you idiots.

Based on news accounts of the time, Barack Obama’s ascendancy to the presidency was nothing short of messianic. Hell, he even claimed that his inauguration was when “the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal.” Fixing myriad problems with a government or economy weren’t…

Republicans May Take ‘Mini’ Debt-Ceiling Deal..or giving an inch now so they can lose a mile later

Republicans would accept a “mini” deal with the Obama administration on raising the debt limit, Senator John Cornyn of Texas, a Republican leader, said.

Cornyn said today on “Fox News Sunday” that while Republicans would prefer a long-term settlement, they would accept a shorter-term agreement if that’s all they could get done. The U.S. Treasury Department has projected that on Aug. 2 the U.S. will no longer be able to meet obligations if the legal debt ceiling isn’t raised.

“The problem with a mini-deal is we have a maxi problem,” said Cornyn, who is in charge of the 2012 Republican Senate campaign strategy. “We’ll take the savings we can get now, and we will re-litigate this as we get closer to the election.”

The Senate shortened its July 4 recess and will remain in Washington to discuss a deal this week to raise the nation’s $14.3 trillion debt limit. The Obama administration is negotiating with Congress on reducing the long-term budget deficit as part of a plan to raise the limit before borrowing authority expires.

A spokesman for House Speaker John Boehner, an Ohio Republican, declined to comment on the idea of a short-term deal.

Hoyer joins Obama in calling past vote on debt ceiling ‘a mistake’…or Republican Idea-Bad…Obama Idea: Whoopieee

House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer has joined President Obama in conceding that he blundered by voting against an increase to the government’s debt ceiling.

“I have voted against the debt limit in the past. That was a mistake,” Hoyer (Md.), the second-ranking House Democrat, said in an unprompted admission to reporters on Tuesday.

His comment came two days after White House adviser David Plouffe said Obama made a mistake by voting against raising the debt ceiling when he was a senator.

Democrats are urging Republicans not to jeopardize the economy and the full faith and credit of the nation with talk of voting against raising the $14 trillion debt ceiling before the borrowing limit is reached in July. But the Democrats’ own votes against raising that ceiling during George W. Bush’s presidency are coming back to haunt them.

The National Republican Senatorial Committee attacked Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.), who voted against raising the ceiling in 2007, for “flip-flopping” on the issue when she called Republicans “profoundly irresponsible” for threatening to do the same thing.

Hoyer said he voted with other Democrats against lifting the debt ceiling when Republicans were in the majority to protest what he said were irresponsible GOP fiscal policies, such as tax cuts for the wealthy.

This is the kind of stuff that just gives me a headache and makes me wonder just when our politicians stopped caring about our country and became nothing more than a bunch of childish mooks in suits.
