Anonymous asked: why do americans classify chinese, vietnamese, japanese etc under the huge umbrella of Asians? but then call Arabs (who technically come from Asia) a different name? Is it cos they can't tell which country we come from (i get that its hard to tell, pple think i am from china or korea when i am Singaporean). it seems strange to me cos i never call white people 'whites', but i would classify them by nationality, like americans, brits, french etc. seems frivolous, but i can never understand
I can’t say for certain but I would assume it’s because the countries those people originate from are located in Southeast Asia. I have no idea where the term “Arab” came from unless it has to do with Europeans possibly first meeting these folks first in the Arabian Peninsula. But that’s just a guess.
Have a great day.
